New cycle parks on Sidegate Lane

posted 26 Sep 2014, 00:35 by Matthew Ferrier
We are really pleased that the new cycle parks will be open from Monday 29th September.
Mr Ferrier will share a slide show presentation with KS2 pupils today and discuss our recommendations for safe use of these new cycle parks. This slide show will be made available for families to view in the Parents Area of this website, on the General safety and E-safety page. We have made the assumption that families of children in KS1 will accompany any children who wish to cycle to school and can access the slideshow as a guide.
Golden rules are included on the last slide but we will emphasise that pupils should only cross Sidegate Lane by pushing their bike across the crossing. We will also stress the importance of wearing a helmet and not cycling on the pavement at such a busy time of day.
Parents of children who are intending to cycle to school independently may wish to walk through safe routes, using the slideshow as a guide, with their children before they start using these facilities.
The gates will be locked during the school day and re-opened at around 3pm.
It is important to stress that the school takes no responsibility for pupils property and that we would recommend that cycles are secured to the racks using an appropriate lock.
Pupils using the cycle park at the top end of the field should not walk across the field, but should walk down Sidegate Lane and in through the main pedestrian gate.
It is also important to point out that the gate at the front of the school is not intended to be used as a pedestrian access as there are no safety railings at the kerbside, however children in KS2 who leave their cycles there can walk round the front of the school to access the KS2 playground.
