I joined the Governing Body 3 years ago and have really enjoyed serving the school and continue to be excited by the progress made in an ever changing environment .

Professionally I have worked for Willis Towers Watson (a Global Insurance Broker) for 23 years working in a number of roles and hope my experience can continue to make a positive contribution towards the running of the school.

Ed Dewson
Trust Governor
Ed was brought up in Suffolk and went to Ipswich School. He took a BSc in Music and Electronics at Keele University, followed by an M.A. in Composition.

He started his first business shortly afterwards and established a client list including Lotus Cars, the BBC, Virgin Atlantic and The British Red Cross. He's performed with his band, The SERIOUS Hat Band, all over the world, sharing the stage with such luminaries as Robbie Williams, Westlife and Ant and Dec.

In the mid 1990s he opened his first comedy club, voted by Time Out Magazine at “one of the best five Comedy Clubs in London”. This subsequently blossomed into the chain of clubs 'Roar With Laughter’ and in 2014 was sold to ZSL.

He continues to run his entertainment business and divides his time between Ipswich and London.

He's enjoying working with the staff at Sidegate in his capacity as Arts Governor. Outside of the world of entertainment, he has an amateur interest in philosophy and modern foreign languages, and in his spare time he enjoys sailing on the Orwell and roller-skating with his children.

 Danny Howden
Staff Governor
Having spent 10 years working as a Primary Teacher in various roles in the North West I joined the school in September 2013 and took on the role of staff governor later the same year. I am the school's lead for music and performing arts and hold a middle leader post with responsibility for the school's foundation curriculum.

My teaching and leadership role means that my work in the school is varied and spans across the whole school, giving me a unique perspective as a governor. I believe a good primary school equips young people with the skills to be life long learners, it gives children learning experiences that they will remember forever and is a place where aspiration and expectation is high so that the best standards of achievement for all pupils can be reached. For me, in my role as a school leader and governor I am delighted to have the opportunity to be able to shape and influence the school's improvement strategy.

I enjoy my work as a governor and see my role as a valuable conduit for bringing policy to practice. I am immensely proud of the improvements that Sidegate has made over the past two years, I am committed to the continued improvement of the school and excited about working with the Active Learning Trust in building the schools' capacity to improve in the future.

  Katie Gooch
Staff Governor

Having read Law and Criminology at the University of Sheffield, I have previously worked for a firm of solicitors and Trading Standards until taking a career break to care for my two children. One of my children attends Sidegate, the other Northgate. I joined the school staff in 2011 as part of a team of Higher Level Teaching Assistants, our role is to plan and deliver vibrant and challenging Religious Education across the school, as well as providing release cover for teachers. In my role as RE Subject leader, I offer training as well as working with local and national Religious Education networks to improve Religious Education provision.

As Support Staff Governor, I aim to bring an “on the ground” perspective to my role as a member of the school governing body. Likewise, my responsibilities on the governing body give me a more global perspective on the financial, legal and results-driven pressures all schools face. It is the role of the governing body to challenge, question and support progress, as well as creating a safe environment where clear values and a rich and varied curriculum allow all children to thrive. Sidegate has made so much progress over the last few years, I am proud to be part of a team who will ensure that progress is sustained.

I joined the Governing Body in 2011 as an associate member. My role at Sidegate is all premises related so I find it rewarding working alongside the governors to improve the school environment and keeping up to date with health & safety for all who use the premises.
I started working at Sidegate in 2000 and all of my primary education was undertaken here.

I have been an Associate Governor since 2011, helping to shape and facilitate the future direction of the school.

Whilst I am proud of the breadth and quality of learning opportunities that the school offers our pupils, I understand that the work of the Governors to build upon, improve and sustain this, remains a constant challenge. I am pleased to contribute to this process.
